Design Tools, Teams, and Process Comfort Zone
A weekly newsletter for web designers [and other creative service providers] designed to tighten up your operational systems so you can create with ease.
An actual newsletter I sent to my subscribers in February of 2025 - just to give you a taste.
My horror when I realized where it landed
We sat at a cafe table next to the river on a sunny day in Amsterdam watching boats troll by and people move about the city. It was picturesque and so relaxing that we decided to stay for another drink and a snack.
Not long after I felt a small breeze and clump - a grey mass appeared on the table and part of my phone right in front of me. As I was piecing together what happened, I realized with horror that it struck my head first. A bird pooped on my head.
I rushed to the bathroom and tried to get most of it out, but with only a tiny bar mirror and almost no lighting, I had to rely on touch. We stayed just long enough to finish up before heading back to the hotel so I could clean up.
If we had just left after the first snack and drink, I would've avoided the situation altogether.
But it was so comfortable. So relaxing. So peaceful.
What reason did we have for moving on so quickly?
This same phenomenon happens in our businesses, often where we're not even looking. We push to grow by expanding offer suites and marketing "harder," but we stay comfortable in our operations. We keep the same tools, team, and processes because "they work".🤷♀️
We never stop to question if they're truly supporting us.
But sometimes comfortable isn't where we need to be. Sometimes comfort becomes a curse, and it just takes one bird to shock us out of our daze.
Experimenting, adjusting, and constantly striving for improvement - these aren't comfortable places.
They challenge us and sometimes make us question ourselves. But in the end, it's always worth moving beyond our current comfort zone.
Experimenting, adjusting, and constantly striving for improvement - these should be our comfortable places. They challenge us and sometimes make us question ourselves. But in the end, it's always worth moving beyond our current comfort zone.
As you move your business out of its comfort zone, I'd love to support you. The SOS monthly membership is a way you can take ownership of your business operations (with guidance) so they end up looking just as good as your designs.

I’d like to think my weekly Tuesday newsletters are enjoyable to read, not too long, and provide something to consider. And if that particular week’s newsletter didn’t hit for you, at the very least you can scroll to the bottom and add a book to your TBR list.
